Holy Water Blessing at Mengening Temple
This morning we take you to experience Blessing Ceremony, locally known as Melukat. This ceremony is essential for Balinese for mind and soul’s purification. This ceremony is performed when they get bad incident happens in their live such as sickness, accident and get a nightmare. We arrange the blessing through special access to a high priest, Jero Mangku Mengening who is the priest who is responsible to lead temple ceremony in the temple.
We provide you with a set of traditional Sarong and Scarf for lady to wear during the ritual. Please a set of dry cloths (underwear and top) as you will take a bath in the natural spring plunge pool.
Meet your tour guide at 08.00 am, he will then take you to Mengening Temple, located in Tampak Siring Village 40 minutes away from Ubud. Mengening Temple was built during the time of King Anak Wungsu (the son of Udayana) in the 11th century. The word of Mengening is from Hening, mean "peaceful" reflected to its location surrounded by a cool breeze and serenity . As you go down the steps into the temple’s courtyard, you can gaze upon the greenery that surrounds the premises, taking in the natural beauty serenaded by the harmonious sounds of natural holy spring water running into different pools below. You will be welcomed by Jero Mangku Mengening who will lead you downstairs to the temple shrine. A set of Banten Pejati Offering is arranged for each participant to present to the altar before bathing.
Blessing ceremony will soon to begin when the priest starts to chant mantra in Sanskrit. Together with his mantra, the priest performs a hand gesture with flowers and using his Balinese bell to pray the offerings. Afterward, you will be sprinkled by a holy water and holy rice will be put on your forehead for your good spirits. After the offering procession is done, the priest will lead you to take a bath in holy spring water plunge pool. In this session, we believed all the bad things and disease will be released and hope for good fortune. Take a change after the blessing and say Om Shanti Shanti Om (Om means of God & universe and Shanti means peace) to finish your blessing ceremony. The Three Hours Blessing Process will then finish and we will take you to have lunch in Ubud.
