Flores
Offering a range of adventures, from mountain climbing to snorkelling in stunning locations plus cultural activities visiting prehistoric heritage sites and traditional weaving villages, Flores has it all. Take an adventurous road trip to the stunning three coloured lakes of Kelimutu where each lake changes colour at certain times of the year. Sunrise vistas of Mount Kelimutu will leave you spellbound. Next, discover the unique Watublapi weaving village, and Doka village where local culture is carefully preserved. Love hot springs? Take in the natural beauty of the hot springs near Bena traditional village and visit the Wawo Muda Lakes. Continue across the island past the beautiful Mount Inerie Peak. If you are up for a 3-hour trek, visit Wae Rebo, the centre of Manggarai culture. Here, you can stay overnight in a village high in the clouds sleeping one of seven tall cone-shaped houses. These iconic traditional houses have been constructed from wood and natural fibres.
The local people have lived in this village for thousands of years, untouched by modern life. If wellness is your thing, discover the tucked away spa near the Mirror Stone Cave (Batu Cermin). You will find a good selection of hiking trails, waterfalls, and secluded swimming spots a short distance from the bustling fishing town of Labuan Bajo. You can also take a speedboat from the town for a day trip to Komodo. This island shelters a large population of wild Komodo dragons. After all that excitement with the dragons, you can relax and swim and snorkel nearby, in the clear waters off the famous “pink beach”. You can spend the rest of the day at Taka Makassar, a tiny boomerang-shaped island. Walk on the tiny smooth white beach in the middle of the sea, with gentle waves lapping from two different directions. Your own floating island. Flores offers many delights of nature, such as dramatic waterfalls and isolated beaches as well as idyllic snorkeling and diving, and a unique culture.
