Selogriyo Rainforest & Rice Terrace Trekking
This morning leave early and we take you to a rural Javanese Village of Citran located 45 minutes away to the north of Borobudur on the Gianti hill. Our car will drop at the drop point, you will be driving on motorbike about 10 minutes to reach the starting point. Start the walk-through rain forest jungle, rice terraces and little streams of crystal-clear water river on the foot of Sumbing Mountain. The 1.5 hours walk gives you different experience of walk. Enjoy stunning view rice terraced with coconuts tress backdrop, hiking through villager’s gardens to see various plantation of cassava, sweet potato and long beans. At your right you will see beautiful view of valleys with Majestic mountain background. The hike will end up in the sacred Selogriyo temple, a small Hindu structure located on the hill. It is not rich with epic stories like Borobudur and Prambanan but nestled in a graceful natural environment it stimulates the feeling of peace. In an architectural sense, Selogriyo can be said to be modest. The temple was built in 9 BC, facing eastwards, about 5 meters in length, width, and height, and no open veranda. Most Indonesian temples have a veranda which allows people to walk around the main building. The shape of the temple resembled a fruit called Amalaka, It had an empty chamber, the garbhagriha. Some say there used to be a lingam and a yoni inside, representing Shiva Mahadeva and Goddess Shakti respectively.
Enjoy refreshment and then we continue to walk to through alleys of village leading to the main road where the car is waiting for us to drive back to Borobudur. Or we will provide motorbike to reach the main road.
